Traffic tickets have consequences that go far beyond the fine. The most serious penalty comes from the loss of points on your driving record, which can lead to higher insurance rates and even suspension of your driver's license.

I handle all types of tickets, including:

  • Automated red-light camera violations
  • Stop sign violations
  • Lane violations
  • Following too close
  • Impeding traffic
  • Seat belt violation
  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding violations such as exhibition of speed and street racing
  • Misdemeanor or felony DUI
  • Hit and run
  • Driving after suspension or revocation
  • Evading police
  • Failure to use signal
  • Crossing a divided line
  • Crossing the centerline
  • Vehicular homicide

Your driver's license can be suspended for 30 days for any moving violation. You can also lose from one to two points for most violations. If you lose four points in any year, six points in a 24-month period or eight points in a 36-month period, you face a one-year suspension of your driver's license.

Insurance rates and traffic tickets

In most cases, losing points on your driving record will affect your insurance rates at the time your policy is renewed. Any loss of points may result in higher rates for the next three years.

California traffic school

If California, you can obtain a zero-point dismissal of your ticket by attending an eight-hour traffic school. You can attend traffic school class in person, by home study or on the Internet. Traffic school is an option if you have not attended the school in the previous 18 months. You can take advantage of this option even if you exercise your right to a trial.
